Old characters in One Piece

D: I feel like One Piece has tons of characters that are old dudes, but is that just because it can’t be helped due to the nature of its story? Or is it because you have the “I’ll die if I don’t draw old dudes” disease? P.N. Uhocilia

O: I love me some old dudes! I feel like age adds a new sense of depth to characters, both male and female. One Piece has tons of really interesting old people! But in the real world, age tends bring people down to a weaker state… and I’ve always disliked how there are some young people out there who just can’t have a little respect for these aged individuals because of this. So with One Piece, I’ve brought to life one of my countless fantasies: which is for there to be super cool old people who’ve maintained their strength throughout the years.

One day, you also will grow old. It’d be great if all of you could remain just as strong as the One Piece oldies are!

10 Things You Should Know About The Eleven Supernovas

  • Of the Eleven Supernovas, all but two (Roronoa Zoro and Killer) are Devil Fruit users as well as captains of their respective crews.
  • There are four members who can use Busoshoku Haki: Monkey D. Luffy, Trafalgar D. Water Law, Roronoa Zoro, and X-Drake.
  • Monkey D. Luffy is the only known pirate of the Worst Generation that is able to use all three types of Haki.
  • Three members of this generation are confirmed D carriers, Monkey D. Luffy, Marshall D. Teach, and Trafalgar D. Water Law.
  • Capone Bege is the only known pirate of the Worst Generation to be a parent.
  • Zoro and Killer are the only members in the group who are not captains.
  • Before the timeskip, the combined bounties of all Eleven Supernovas equal to Beli 2,152,000,000, the highest combined amount of any known group. It is currently unknown what it is post-timeskip. With the information revealed so far, the collective amount is at Beli 3,430,000,000.
  • Four members of the Supernovas have bounties which tie: Luffy and Law at Beli 500,000,000 each and Hawkins and Zoro at Beli 320,000,000 each.
  • Aside from Killer and Luffy, all the others were named after real life pirates or privateers. While Oda did not intend it at the time, Luffy has a similar naval term via a “Luff”. This leaves Killer as the only one whose name has no link at all to any sea-based term or name, and Oda admitted in an SBS he was given his name out of pure laziness.
  • In the SBS of Volume 64, Oda drew the Eleven Supernovas (except Monkey D. Luffy and Roronoa Zoro) as children. Blackbeard was depicted as a child along with the rest of the Shichibukai in the previous SBS.

Buggy’s Devil Fruit limits

The Bara Bara no Mi is a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that makes the user immune to slashing attacks. The user can split their own body apart into pieces and control them. These pieces that have been split can levitate as the user wishes and can even get reattached. Only the feet have to stay on the ground.

Anyway a Bara Bara man has a certain distance limit to his ability. There is a 200 Bara Bara diameter circle around the point where the person touches the ground. Outside of that distance, he cannot control those parts of his body.

WHY IS HE ADDING “-YA”?

D: Like “Mugiwara-ya”, Law-san tends to call people with the “-ya” suffix, but in the case where the person’s last name is “Tsuchiya”, then does that become “Tsuchiya-ya”? Please tell me Law-san♡ P.N. HeartLoveWoman

O: Mr. Law—they’re calling you –! …………. Aw he won’t come-. Let me answer instead. A long time ago, around maybe the Edo period–. There was this thing called “Yagō”. So if for instance, in the case where there were two Mr. commoners named “Tomekichi-san”, things like “Dōgu-ya no Tomekichi” (Tomekichi of the Tool shop) or “Oke-ya no Tomekichi” (Tomekichi of the Bathtub maker); something with “~ya” would be used in place of a last name-. Like how you shout “Tamaya~” at the fireworks or “Nakamuraya” from Kabuki; have you heard of those? In other words, he just goes with the flow. Right, Law-san?

10 Things You Should Know About Buggy

  • In the manga, Buggy is usually drawn with his mouth open, causing one fan to ask Oda to draw him with his mouth shut.
  • In the 4th Japanese Popularity Poll, Buggy is ranked the 21st most popular character in One Piece. His best ranking in a fan poll was 7th place in the first poll. In the 5th poll, he ranked 34th.
  • One of Oda’s SBS questions asked if Buggy’s penis was also able to split and fly off. Oda replied “his penis can fly too” as every part of Buggy’s body could fly off, but his feet.
  • In an early interview for Shonen Jump, Oda once stated Buggy was his favorite villain; however, over time Oda has listed other villains as his favorite.
  • Though not considered canon, a scene of Ace ditching Buggy can be seen at the end of Ace’s ending for the game One Piece: Grand Battle 3. After entering a bar and feasting on food, Ace (currently asleep) wakes up and realizes he has forgotten something and runs out of the bar – leaving Buggy with the Beli380,000 bill.
  • When Buggy detaches his head and floats around, he resembles a Nukekubi – a flesh-eating humanoid monster of Japanese mythology said to detach its head during the night to float around and hunt for mortals to victimize.
  • Buggy is the first villain who is a Devil Fruit user.
  • He has shown to involuntarily split up his body when shocked or surprised. A joke to show that the news has caused him to “go to pieces”.
  • Like many other characters, Buggy has a distinct laugh, “gyahahahahaha!”
  • In an SBS, a fan asked if Buggy bled when using his Devil Fruit powers, only for Oda to reply that it would make him appear too scary.

Hancock’s cape and Luffy

D: The thing that got to me this time was when, in in the 4th panel on page 5 of chapter 526, Luffy emerges after getting into Impel Down… but no matter how I look at it, it seems that doesn’t come out of Hancock’s cape, but from her skirt! What’s the truth? It’s getting to me so much that on the geography test, I wrote “Laboon” instead of “Lagoon”! What are you going to do about that? Pen Name: The Sacred Ground inside the Skirt

O: I can’t take responsibility for the test, but of course Luffy wasn’t hiding in the cape, but in the skirt… or more directly, in that china dress. If he didn’t, the cape would just bulge over him, and he’d be discovered immediately? He was clinging directly to Hancock under her clothes – hey hey! Stop imagining weird things like that! Oh dear. The two of them were serious! If they were discovered, they’d be killed…! Ah, a nosebleed.

Enel’s Great Space Operations (Colored) – Cover Side Story

Enel’s Great Space Operations is the ninth mini-series created as a side story on the title pages of each One Piece chapter.
Having finally reached the moon, Enel encounters a group of small robots known as automata, as well as a vicious group of Space Pirates. After a series of events, Enel’s Goro Goro no Mi powers wind up activating not only all of the automata, but their city as well, and the self-proclaimed God discovers his true roots.
The story can be set after the events of the Skypiea Arc.

Zoro and Sanji: Friends and Rivals

Though they can behave casually and calmly towards each other, Sanji very frequently gets into physical and verbal fights with Zoro (who he refers to as “marimo” or “mosshead” because of his green hair); in turn, he is nicknamed “shitty cook”, “ero-cook” and “Prince of Dumbass Kingdom” (among other things) by Zoro.

However, when the pair fight together against a common foe, they are nearly an unstoppable team.

Despite their comical fights and rivalry, they have a brotherly trust and care between them they would never admit to, in fact the two warriors understand each other better than other crewmates.
After Wanda accidentally implied that the minks had killed the Curly Hat Pirates, it is Zoro who calms the others down by reminding them that Sanji was with them, and that he would not have let his half of the crew get killed.

Luffy made a cameo in DBZ before One Piece was even released :D

An unusual discovery was made by a Chinese manga fan while reading through old issues of Dragon Ball.  In a panel following one with Cell hovering over a village, a resident can be seen with the distinctive straw hat and tank top commonly associated with Monkey D. Luffy of One Piece fame.

At first glance this may seem like a simple homage Dragon Ball author Akira Toriyama made to his heir Eiichiro Oda, creator of One Piece.  Especially since both comics are published by the same company, these kind of cameo appearances are not unusual. But the Dragon Ball series was finished in 1995, two years before the first issue of One Piece. Therefore the chances of that straw hat belonging to Luffy are slim to none. Probably it’s just a mere coincidence.
