Oda Revealed What the One Piece Isn’t. Here is what he said about it!

Upon asking Oda whether the ending of One Piece was already determined, Oda answered:

Eiichiro Oda: “Yes, I already decided on how it’s going to end. Should I tell you now?”

Momoko Sakura: “Well, I want to know, but I probably shouldn’t. But, the One Piece, it’s not something like “the growth your heart went through”, right?”

Eiichiro Oda: “Hahaha, no no, I won’t be pulling off some kind of Wizard of Oz thing like that. After having gone through an adventure like that, it wouldn’t be fair to not actually give them a reward.”

Then we could deduce that the One Piece ISN’T “a dream”, or “the bonds created among the straw hat crew” etc.

So, wich is your favorite Story Arc?

One Piece Family

D: Hello, Odacchi! I have a question; will you hear me out? …Oh, you will? Thanks! Here goes. In the song the Straw Hats sing called “Family”, they have a line that goes “We’re not acquaintances, we’re not friends, we’re family”. If the Straw Hats really were an actual family, who would be the dad, and who would be the mom? P.N. Nashi

Although the One Piece family theater was different, Oda replied this way :

O: “Family” has been aired on TV, and it seems to be the most popular out of all the character songs. I really love it, too. My answer would currently be something like this.

  • Dad: Franky (Thug)
  • Mom: Robin
  • First Son: Zoro
  • Second Son: Sanji (Punk)
  • Daughter: Nami
  • Third Son: Usopp
  • Fourth Son: Luffy
  • Youngest: Chopper

Brook wasn’t introduced in the manga at the time this question was asked. He’d probably be an old perverted grandfather…

How many people can Nami’s Happiness Punch take out?

D: Luffy’s Haoshoku Haki can take out 50,000 people, but how many people can Nami’s Happiness Punch take out?          P.N. Captain Nobuo

O: Oho–. I see. This is tough showdown, isn’t it. Well let’s see, if we were to talk about these two using their techniques with their own bodies alone, Nami’s Happiness Punch would only work among “visible range”, so it would probably not be able to compete against Luffy’s haki. However, if we are allowed to take the usage of Visual Den Den Mushi into consideration, Luffy’s Haki will not be able to convert into willpower-radio waves, but Nami will be able to attack various locations around the world at once, and thus victory would become Nami’s. Nevertheless, it should be noted that the “Happiness Punch” also deals a great amount damage to one’s wallet as it requires the payment of 100,000 belis per person, and in this way, it can be confirmed that this attack is a great deal nastier than Haki in general.

Luffy & Shanks

Luffy looks up to Shanks as his role model, childhood hero and the man he wants to eventually surpass. At first, Shanks never took Luffy seriously because he was just a boy, so he mocked Luffy’s dreams to become a pirate, dubbing him “Anchor”.

Later, as Shanks and his crew were leaving after Luffy stood up for him in front of Higuma and his men, Luffy declared he would become better than him, causing Shanks to begin to treat him seriously. Just as Luffy is currently looking for Shanks, Shanks eagerly awaits the day that he meets up with Luffy.

Oda revealed which scene made him cry the most

D: Oda-sensei, as you were drawing this series, which scene made you cry the most so far? Please tell us.             P.N. ca- 100

O: Woah. Splendid… This. These are the kinds of serious questions I look for.

Personally, there really are lots of scenes that made me tear up as I drew them. There are even times where the drawing becomes so tough for me from all the feelings, that I have to leave my desk for a breather. As for the scene that made me cry the most, or rather, the scene that was especially tough for me to draw, I do remember that the scene from the Alabasta arc where Vivi keeps screaming “Please…!!! Stop fighting!!!” (Volume 23) was so hard to draw that I had to put my pen down. Though there are countless instances like this the more I try to recall. I guess it would have to be this one—.

Moriah’s Scar – Myth & Fact

1. Myth: Moriah’s scar comes from his fight with Kaido.

Fact: The origins of Moriah’s scar have not been revealed. Those scars have existed for at least 20 years though as shown in the chapter 0 (and appears to have grown over the years). Though it appears on the skin, it is also unconfirmed to be a scar, since almost all other scars seen with stitches in the series have normal “-” across them. For a surgeon, an “x” scar would make the skin close incorrectly on the wound, disputing the pressure on the closed wound incorrectly. This is why surgeons always do a straight stitch across as it pulls the flesh together equally.

2. Myth: That’s not a scar! He is wearing a mask!

Fact: Note worthy enough, the “scar” has lengthened over the years. But even before Chapter 0 was released, this theory cropped up on his face being a mask or based on a mask. To date, this is also unknown and one can presume as far as the readers are concerned that it is his true face. Early concept arts of Moriah shown him to be wearing a mask. However, the mask theory is debunked when it is revealed on the latest SBS where Oda draw the Shichibukai as children, Moriah’s face was in fact the same in his childhood, though a bit skinnier. He also does not seem to gain his scar and stitches on his face yet.

What is the Calm Belt?

The Calm Belts are two areas that are just north and south of the Grand Line.

These areas almost never have ocean currents or winds blowing, and are also nesting grounds for Sea Kings. They are very effective barriers for those trying to enter the Grand Line. The Straw Hat Pirates encountered the Sea Kings and were caught on top of one of their heads after the crew inadvertently entered one of the Calm Belts. The crew and their ship were sneezed away by a larger Sea King, which implies that the Sea Kings do not stay in the Calm Belts consistently.

It was revealed that the Marines cross the Calm Belts by using Seastone lining at the bottom of their ships so Sea Kings will not notice a ship above them. The island of Amazon Lily is one of the few locations which is known to be within one of the Calm Belts. Its location within a Calm Belt has historically guarded the island from intruders. However, this protection has degraded somewhat due to the Marines’ newly invented technique of shielding their boats from Sea Kings with Seastone. Silvers Rayleigh is the only known person so far to have reached Amazon Lily by swimming and without much hindrance by the Sea Kings.

Another natural island in the Calm Belt is the island of Rusukaina, which is located northwest of Amazon Lily.

The Great Gaol, Impel Down, is built in the middle of the Calm Belt, upon the seafloor. Because of the heavy security and Sea Kings, it is almost impossible to break in or out of it. However, Shiki the Golden Lion managed to escape by cutting off his shackled legs, and more recently, Monkey D. Luffy slipped into Impel Down and managed to escape with 241 prisoners.

Captain “Calico” Yorki of the Rumbar Pirates is said to have attempted to flee the Grand Line via one of the Calm Belts after he and several other crewmates contracted a deadly disease. Their fate is unknown but it is said that they perished before escaping that Calm Belt.

Oda explained how he draws females!

D: Nice to meet you. This is sudden, but… please teach us a tip or two on how to draw that hawt hourglass body all ONE PIECE female characters seem to have! Make sure you don’t forget to include them airbags ♡

P.N. If there’s no bread, let them eat roses~

O: Yes. Hello. It’s drawing time at the SBS segment. I would suggest that you think of a woman’s proportions as “three circles, one X”. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be leaving.

(I only draw this kind of body, so I get a lot of complaint postcards from my female audience. Let’s all stay strong and keep on living life.)
